The Fusion of SEIKO's Technology and nonnative's Identity
SEIKO began its journey in 1881 as "K. Hattori & Co.," dealing in watch repairs and imported timepieces. In 1892, it established "Seikosha" for watch manufacturing, and in 1895, succeeded in producing the "Timekeeper," Japan's first domestically made pocket watch, establishing itself as a pioneer in Japanese watchmaking.
SEIKO continued to produce high-precision timepieces around the time of the Pacific War, and in 1956, after the war, unveiled Japan's first automatic wristwatch. In 1964, it replaced Swiss brands as the official timekeeper for the Tokyo Olympics, an event noted as "the first Olympics without timing errors," cementing SEIKO's global reputation. Furthermore, in 1969, it launched the world's first quartz watch. With a proud 130-year history, SEIKO continues to solidify its position as Japan's leading watch brand.
From the 1980s, SEIKO undertook contracts with the British Ministry of Defence, manufacturing and supplying military chronographs to the British military. These military watches, which met the stringent MIL-SPEC requirements set by the British Ministry of Defence, came in two generations: Generation 1, featuring a 15-jewel quartz movement, and Generation 2, supplied until the late 1990s, which used a movement without jewels. Both models were highly popular for their functional beauty and performance, and are still traded at high prices today.
For this collaboration with nonnative, the design is based on the military chronographs supplied to the British Ministry of Defence, with enhanced functionality using current technology. The stainless steel case, finished with a matte treatment, has been enlarged for a more substantial feel. The matte black dial features numeral indices with carefully considered typography, and the markings are placed on the dial ring rather than the dial itself, incorporating nonnative's signature design details.
Furthermore, it includes an alarm function, which was not present at the time. With an accuracy of ±15 seconds per month, it boasts SEIKO's hallmark, certified high performance. The band comes in two colors, black and khaki, allowing for versatile styling to match various outfits. Each watch also features a unique serial number from 001 to 500.
The "nonnative×SEIKO CHRONOGRAPH WATCH" marks SEIKO's first collaboration with an up-and-coming menswear brand. It is a masterpiece that fuses SEIKO's pinnacle technology with nonnative's distinct identity.
