A 40th Anniversary Model Arrives for the Regal Sneaker
The "Regal Sneaker," first released in 1975 and a massive hit at the time, celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. To commemorate this milestone, a special edition of the "Tennis" model, known for its signature "R" logo and credited with igniting the sneaker boom, has been released.

The "Tennis," Once a Blockbuster Hit, is Refined
In 1975, as the American casual boom and a growing youth interest in sports began to draw attention to sneakers, Regal, a formal shoemaker, launched a canvas sneaker. The mid-cut Regal Sneaker, commonly known as "Hockey," quickly became immensely popular despite its relatively high price for the era. The following year, the "Tennis" sneaker, distinguished by two thick stripes and the "R" mark, was released and became a smash hit.

Hundreds of thousands of pairs were sold, and the television commercials also garnered significant attention. It is said that the term "sneaker" began to be used for shoes generally referred to as "zook" or "athletic shoes" around the time of the Regal Sneaker's popularity.
This anniversary model retains the charm of the original while featuring a slightly longer last for a sleeker silhouette. The signature "R" mark and two stripes are rendered in embroidery. Furthermore, the use of terry cloth for the lining ensures comfort even when worn barefoot, showcasing meticulous attention to detail. The laces come in two types: plain white and striped. Available for both men and women in four colors each. The accompanying box is a special edition featuring the "REGAL" logo, color-coordinated with each shoe.
