A Location That Amplifies the Collection's Aura
This marked the third runway show for DIOR HOMME in China, following Beijing in 2013 and Shanghai in 2014. The Guangzhou show took place at the city's Opera House, a structure designed by the Pritzker Prize-winning British architect Zaha Hadid, renowned for her groundbreaking designs. It was the first time a fashion show was held within this architectural masterpiece.
The show strongly conveyed the connection between fashion and art, a theme emphasized by Creative Director Kris Van Assche. The location was ideal for recreating the "Opening Night & Daydreaming" runway from Paris, creating an atmosphere where the building itself seemed to envelop the entire show, crafting an innovative and unique narrative. This edifice served as a bridge between Dior Homme's tradition and modernity, and China's contemporary spirit.
The runway featured a mix of international and Chinese models, accompanied by a live performance from 40 members of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra. Under the baton of conductor Thomas Rösler, known for his unique blend of contemporary and classical music, they performed tracks by the musician KOUDLAM. In a highlight, Koudlam himself made a surprise appearance, singing his songs and captivating the approximately 600 guests in attendance.
Following the show, Creative Director Kris Van Assche shared the following comments about the experience:
"I am honored to be able to stage another show in China. This collection explores the elegance born from the interplay of techno and sartorial craftsmanship, and I believe that by setting it in Guangzhou, it has been perceived from a fresh perspective. This not only elevates my creations, which pursue modernity and heritage, to new heights but also prompts me to consider how to best convey the brand's identity to a wider audience. Through this experience, I am convinced that China's contemporary allure is continuously growing."
After the show concluded, a closing party, which dynamically utilized the Opera House's interior, brought the event to a successful close. The President of Christian Dior China was present as a host, conversing with celebrities from both domestic and international circles. This large-scale initiative by a major fashion house in China, a market of global focus, signifies a significant expansion in the scope of creative expression within the fashion scene. It is an evolution that demands our attention.
