The Latest Collection Interpreting Amish Lifestyles Through the FUJITO Lens


“This season, my inspiration comes from Amami Oshima, at the southern tip of Kyushu. Every time I visit the island over the past few years, I’ve become deeply fascinated by the people and their way of life,” explains designer Go Fujito. We can feel Fujito’s vision in this look: a Panama hat, an Amish-style vest, and an open-collar shirt paired with shorts.

Utilizing Techniques Unique to Amami Oshima


──What is the theme/concept of the Spring/Summer 2015 collection?

Amami Oshima, at the southern tip of Kyushu. Every time I visit the island over the past few years, I’ve become deeply fascinated by the people and their way of life. This collection was created with the image of life there in mind, using techniques unique to Amami Oshima, such as jackets dyed with natural indigo mud.

For styling and color palettes, I referenced the Amish people who live in North America, fundamentally rejecting modern civilization and living a self-sufficient life. I’ve paired bright-colored shirts with items like Panama hats and vests.

──What were your priorities and what should people pay attention to in this season's lookbook shoot?

I created more items in bright colors than usual, so I’ve been careful not to make the coordination look too light.

──What are the differences in styling, silhouette, and color compared to last year's Spring/Summer collection?

There are items like slightly oversized shirts that create a loose silhouette, allowing for a different style than before.

──What is the key look (coordination) for this season?

It’s a look featuring a Panama hat, an Amish-style vest, and an open-collar shirt paired with shorts. I’ve incorporated the Amish people’s style, which was the hint for this season, into the FUJITO style.

The Key Color for This Season is Green


──What are the key items and key colors?

I believe the jacket dyed in Amami Oshima best represents the mood of this season. Green is the key color, and we have items like post-dyed hoodies and open-collar shirts.

──What are the signature items, silhouettes, or materials that define FUJITO?

It has to be our standard jeans, which we’ve released since the brand’s launch in 2002. We offer two types: a straight model and a tapered slim model. They are made from a densely woven denim fabric that is very comfortable to wear and molds to the body with wear.

──What sustains the brand's creativity?

That’s a difficult question… We don’t conceive of each season’s collection with a unified “Go!”; rather, FUJITO reflects what I constantly feel and the accumulation of my daily life. In that sense, I feel that “continuity” is the origin of everything. I believe I am sustained by the feeling that I can continue this going forward.
