A discerning adult, naturally, has a discerning way of dressing. This remains true even on weekends, but the challenge lies in the fact that one cannot rely on the symbol of a suit, making personal style even more crucial. To reiterate, Japan was instrumental in translating American traditional style into fashion, and Regal was a deliberate instigator from its early days. "VAN," led by Kensuke Ishizu, which traced the styling of the Ivy League, was enthusiastically supported by young people in the 1960s. They came to be known as the Miyuki tribe, named after the street in Ginza where their large stores were located. Adorning their feet were Regal shoes, in a tag-team with VAN.

"The loafers and wingtips that have been produced since that time function not only with weekday suits but also as items that elevate casual weekend styles," says stylist Masahiro Tochigi.

The Pride to Share

Mr. Tochigi was particularly drawn to the collection, which incorporates seasonal and contemporary elements, as much as the timeless classics.

"In recent years, men's fashion has been seeking comfortable wearability. For example, unstructured tailoring that omits internal padding, or jersey fabrics. When considering compatibility with such items, soft color tones and details like sneaker-style soles show an unparalleled synergy."

"The key to today's styling is the incorporation of denim and white, colors that are perfect for spring. The color palette already exudes refinement, and by adding a suede jacket, we've enhanced the sophisticated air suitable for an adult's weekend."

The styling, with its emphasis on elegance, leverages Regal's inherent strengths, according to Mr. Tochigi.

"Regal's charm lies in its understated elegance that blends seamlessly with anyone, much like a seasoned actor. These new models are no exception. This is fundamentally because American traditional style is at its roots. Trad ensures an adult's social standing."

However, their cautious, almost glacial pace, without resting on their historical laurels, is noteworthy.

While considering current trends, they also assess whether the product will feel out of place on the sales floor.—"In essence, it's about whether the subtle touch of modernity is just right. The design team meticulously debates every line and component. Furthermore, its durability and comfort are rigorously tested by the company's own testing facilities, known for their strict standards even outside the company. Mr. Tochigi notes that, at least in the world of footwear, he is unaware of any other manufacturer that conducts such multifaceted and systematic evaluations."
