Launched in the Autumn/Winter 2013 season, tone centers on the concept of “pursuing simple, modern items that highlight the wearer’s individuality and make the most of their materials,” offering clean, effortlessly stylish knitwear. For its fourth season, designer Takuhisa Maede explains, “This season, we’ve updated vintage 90s clothing for contemporary tastes. Our products, meticulously made in Japan with high quality and a slightly relaxed silhouette, represent sophisticated adult casualwear.”

Focus on Tops & Shorts in Milano Rib Knit
──What is the theme/concept for the Spring/Summer 2015 collection?
This season, as with previous ones, we haven't set a specific theme. Our fundamental brand concept remains “creating pieces to be cherished in your wardrobe for a long time.” Within that timeless concept, we aim to convey freshness and present what feels new and perhaps has been missing, through simple expressions.
──What are the key looks (outfits) for this season?
It’s the setup in Milano rib. We’ve used Milano rib knitting, typically found in jackets, for both the tops and shorts. I believe the appeal lies in the relaxed feel inherent to knitwear, combined with the volume and structure reminiscent of Reverse Weave.
──What are the key items and key colors?
Key items include the Milano rib setup, a cut-and-sew piece modified from a rugby shirt, and updated versions of 90s vintage clothing. This season’s colors, in addition to our standard navy, feature oatmeal and dark orange.
──What are the signature items, silhouettes, or materials that define ‘tone’?
We focus on silhouettes that fit any style and use durable, high-quality wool so the pieces can be worn for a long time.
──What inspires the brand's creativity?
Everything I have experienced and everything around me now. People, objects, the air, the scenery.
