A Collection Honoring 1950s and 70s British-Made Products
The "Nigel Cabourn x Fred Perry" 2015 Spring/Summer Collection
The common ground between Fred Perry (Frederick John Perry) and designer Nigel Cabourn is their love for table tennis.—Fred Perry, who was also the world champion of table tennis in 1929 before becoming a world champion in tennis's Grand Slam tournaments in the 1930s. Nigel Cabourn, a self-proclaimed fan of his, is such an enthusiast that he still practices five days a week with a former British representative coach, which led to this collaboration.

Fred Perry, Overlapping with Nigel Cabourn's Roots
The 2015 Spring/Summer collection, the debut collection for "Nigel Cabourn x Fred Perry," is inspired by the sportswear worn by the brand's founder, Fred Perry, and by table tennis player Victor Barna, who won 40 medals and five world championships between 1929 and 1954.
Regarding the creation of this collaboration, Nigel Cabourn commented, "Fred Perry is a brand that resonates with me because it respects British history and tradition, and also focuses on British manufacturing, much like my own roots. I believe our fans will enjoy this collaborative collection."
Outerwear Crafted with a Commitment to British Manufacturing
This collection draws from both Nigel Cabourn's vintage archives, known for his meticulous approach to design details such as the use of cotton pique from early 1950s tennis wear and shirts layered with 1970s vintage vests, and Fred Perry's sportswear archives.
The collection pieces are based on styles Fred Perry created for training in the early 1950s and silhouettes that Nigel himself has developed. Notably, the fleece-lined sweatshirt set evokes retro sportswear. The three-button blazer is made from fabric woven by Lancashire-based fabric manufacturer Dawes Weaving and sewn at the Mackintosh factory.
The bomber jacket, an arrangement of the popular cameraman jacket from Nigel's own collection with mixed materials, is also produced at the same factory, featuring outerwear that emphasizes British manufacturing. The garments are finished with original name tags, locker loops, and white laurel patches.
Furthermore, the table tennis shoes, based on Fred Perry's archive designs and Nigel's 1930s tennis shoe archives, and the holdall bag, made from 18-ounce canvas by Halley Stevenson, a high-quality wax cotton manufacturer based in Dundee, Scotland, and featuring brass studs, are exclusive items produced by Chapman's, renowned for its high-quality bag production since its founding in 1893.
