Creators Beyond the Kimono Industry Unite

Led by Takayuki Yajima, YAMATO Director, as Project Director, with Naomi Hirabayashi (Plug-in Graphic) as Art Director, Kazuya Sasaki (SMALL CLONE) as Interior Designer, and Takeshi Nimura as Buying Director, "Y. & SONS" presents a new world of men's kimonos, unlike anything seen before in the traditional Japanese apparel industry.

Under Mr. Yajima's direction, who believes "a man wearing a kimono is a luxurious adult pastime," Y. & SONS offers not only authentic kimonos adhering to Japanese tradition but also actively proposes coordination with Western wear, including hats, shoes, and accessories. "We aim to establish the standard for men's kimonos for the future," he states with enthusiasm.

From Measurement to Customization and Tailoring, Industry's Fastest: 2 Weeks!

Sixty to seventy percent of the kimonos handled are in-house merchandise. From casual cotton kimonos with stripes and checks to Yuki Tsumugi and Oshima Tsumugi silks, orders are placed directly with producers across Japan.

Prices range from ¥39,000 for cotton kimonos, ¥49,000 for wool kimonos, and ¥89,000 for silk kimonos (all including tailoring costs), allowing customers to purchase them as they would a suit or jacket. Furthermore, the entire process from measurement to customization and tailoring is completed in a record two weeks. "It's even possible for foreigners to order a custom kimono during their stay," he notes.

While kimonos are often perceived as "troublesome to store," Y. & SONS has developed an original box designed to hold an entire kimono set. "We want to convey the joy of wearing kimonos, including the enjoyment of the 'trouble' involved, such as being able to store the kimono directly in its box," says Mr. Yajima.

The logo design, created by Naomi Hirabayashi, combines the "mountain" and "hawk" family crests, symbolizing YAMATO's ambition to build the standard for men's kimonos and the project's future leap forward.
