The Brand's Most Casual Spring/Summer Collection Ever

"We propose items that you might casually pick up each morning, find yourself wearing often, and eventually grow to love, like well-worn vintage clothing, offering a sense of comfort and texture from years of use," says Hiroshi Kuramoto, designer of FLISTFIA. This season, he continues to propose "clothing felt in everyday life."

Expressing Relaxation Directly

──What was the theme/concept for the 2015 Spring/Summer collection?

We don't set a specific theme each season; we create what we feel like making at the time. As it's a cut-and-sew brand, our focus is, of course, on developing everything in cut-and-sew.

──What were your points of focus for this season's lookbook shoot, and what should people pay attention to?

We aimed for an atmosphere that evokes a bright and refreshing mood.

──How does this season differ from last year's Spring/Summer collection in terms of styling, silhouette, and color?

I believe we've made it the most casual collection to date. Previously, we aimed to incorporate a relaxed feel within a classic, mature aesthetic, but this season, we've deliberately emphasized relaxation directly. It's like an adult's summer vacation.

──What are the key looks (outfits) for this season?

As seen in the three looks in the top photo, we've paired casual shorts with tops like jackets and shirts that adults often wear. We aimed for a relaxed, casual feel, like adults going on a vacation. It's not a youthful holiday, but a leisurely escape where time flows slowly.

──What are the key items and key colors?

This season, we've created pants for the first time. Although they are shorts, we focused on achieving FLISTFIA's signature material feel and silhouette. A challenge with cut-and-sew pants is that they tend to stretch out easily, but these are made from a tightly woven, firm fabric using a special knitting machine, which prevents them from losing their shape. This allows for a clean silhouette similar to woven trousers, while retaining the lightweight and stretchy comfort of cut-and-sew. Additionally, the denim shorts and short-sleeved pullover are new types of products for us.

──What "materials" did you focus on this season?

These are the denim shorts and pullover mentioned as key items. Unlike typical indigo-dyed cut-and-sew, these are woven on a fabric loom for woven denim at a factory in Okayama. While cut-and-sew involves knitting, this is woven denim, just like regular denim. Therefore, you can enjoy the unique texture and fading characteristic of denim, similar to standard denim. The fabric is made by using a structure similar to loopback terry on the reverse side of regular denim, with a slight stretch added, finished in a cut-and-sew style. Although they look like complete denim, the cut-and-sew finish makes them extremely lightweight with moderate stretch, resulting in excellent comfort.

──What are the items, silhouettes, or materials that define FLISTFIA?

Our classic crewneck sweatshirt, which we've been making since our first season, is definitely the item that comes to mind when people ask what defines FLISTFIA. It's slightly thin, and many describe it as being "between a long-sleeve T-shirt and a sweatshirt." Made from a fabric with rich heathered texture, it has a slightly slim silhouette, making it a sweatshirt that can be worn in a mature style.

──What supports the brand's creativity?

Clothing felt in everyday life.
