The Latest Collection Inspired by the Annual Theme "SAHOU"

The brand, which changed its name to the current "URU" from the 2011 Autumn/Winter season, develops collections based on a single annual theme rather than distinct seasonal themes. We spoke with designer Masaharu Urushiyama about the theme and concept behind the 2015-16 Autumn/Winter collection.

A Collection Developed with Reversed Processes

──What is the theme/concept for the 2015-16 Autumn/Winter collection?

This time, instead of finishing the designs and then selecting fabrics, we began by choosing the fabrics and then developing the designs, a reversal of our usual process.

Furthermore, rather than using a single material, we intentionally used a diverse range of fabrics, such as alpaca and silk, to create textiles with various blends. In terms of sewing, we also challenged ourselves with complex patterning that required changes to the usual procedures.

──What were your priorities for this season's lookbook shoot, and what should people pay attention to?

We deliberately used the same model throughout the year to maintain a sense of unity with the annual theme.

──What are the differences in styling, silhouette, and color compared to last year's Autumn/Winter collection?

While this season's theme is SAHOU, the annual theme that URU upholds is continuously carried forward, encompassing previous themes, as long as the brand exists.

──What is the key look (coordination) for this season?

Everything contributes to forming URU, but if I had to pick one, it would be the look featuring the overcoat. Although it appears to be a heavy wool overcoat, we finished it with unlined construction, creating a light and dynamic feel.

Featuring Rare Geelong Lambswool

──What is the key item?

The key item is the overcoat I mentioned earlier. The material we focused on is Geelong lambswool (wool first combed from lambs aged up to six months from the Geelong region of Victoria, Australia).

──Please express "this season's mood" in one word.

Rather than a mood for this specific collection, our approach is based on the annual theme, so the initiative rooted in that theme is "SAHOU."

──What stimulates the brand's (designer's) creativity?

Everyday life.
