PHABLIC×KAZUI: Spring/Summer 2015 Collection
Expressing the Shifting Mind of a Young "Freud"
Each season, the brand PHABLIC×KAZUI presents a collection centered around a single protagonist, with the theme of "clothing with a story." Designer Kai Takizawa states, "Continuing from the previous season, this season's collection features a young 'Freud' as the protagonist."

This Season's Theme: "Tomorrow-Today-Yesterday" -Case of Freud-"
──What is the theme/concept for the Spring/Summer 2015 collection?
This season's collection draws inspiration from the story of a young "Freud," continuing from the Autumn/Winter 2014-15 season. It focuses on the new "Life" he discovers, exploring the adolescent struggles that everyone experiences: a young man burdened by worries finds a new place for himself in his place of learning, and discovers his path through his studies and new life. This is expressed through the wear collection.
──What were the key points and aspects you wanted to emphasize in this season's lookbook shoot?
For the previous season (Autumn/Winter 2014-15), we shot the collection lookbook primarily indoors at night, with the theme of "reclusion," to convey Freud's contemplation of his future. This season, moving one step forward, we aimed to express his gradually outward-facing emotions by shooting in locations with warm sunlight by the window and expansive views of the sea. We hope you can feel the "changes in an adolescent's mind" even slightly through his figure standing in natural light.
──What are the differences in styling, silhouette, and color compared to last year's Spring/Summer collection?
Last year's Spring/Summer season featured a mix of active outdoor casual wear, such as shorts and raincoats, with items suitable for indoor wear. This season, we are proposing a blend of classic casual wear with elegant workwear, primarily white lab coats and jackets worn by researchers. As with last year, we have used many natural materials, mainly cotton and linen, and have crafted them to be thin and light, making them suitable for wear even in midsummer.
──What are the key looks (outfits) for this season?
We envision the protagonist, Freud, now a researcher, walking briskly through campus in his daily attire: a wide shirt made of 100% Tencel with a draped feel, cropped wide pants in linen/rayon, and a work coat made of the same material as the pants, labeled "Researcher's Coat." Additionally, while the all-in-one from last season was created for staying at home, this season's short-sleeved all-in-one, evolved into more active casual wear, will add new breadth to styling.
Expressing the Protagonist's Shifting Emotions and Direction Through Color
──What are the key items and key colors?
The key items are the work coat, shirt, and all-in-one. The key colors are white, navy, red, and yellow. While last season's proposal was primarily white, this season we have added brighter colors to the palette, expressing the protagonist's gradually changing emotions and direction through color.
──What "materials" did you focus on this season?
This season, we have combined and used linen materials with various expressions, as well as soft materials like Tencel and rayon that have drape and movement. We selected materials that would not feel hot even when layered, and that would look more attractive when in motion.
──What are the signature items, silhouettes, or materials that define "PHABLIC×KAZUI"?
Our shirts, jackets, and coats are consistently popular each season. For our shirts, we incorporate subtle details within a simple design through specialized patterns and material choices, ensuring a comfortable fit and silhouette. For jackets and coats, keeping in mind layering with various items, we create oversized arms and shoulders, and body width. However, we meticulously craft the patterns to ensure a clean silhouette once worn, not just a larger size. Many items are available in two sizes (1/2 and 2), designed to be wearable by a wide range of people. Thanks to the construction of the arms and shoulders, many items are also unisex.
──What inspires the brand's creativity?
The source of PHABLIC×KAZUI's creativity is always the "stories of people" from various nationalities, ages, professions, and genders around the world. The factor of "how people live," which appears similar yet is in fact entirely unique to each individual. By setting a protagonist each season and experiencing their "way of life = story" with diverse backgrounds, our creativity is stimulated, leading to the creation of necessary clothing. The protagonist is always both "you" and "I."
