Like a Cool Accessory
DJ KAWASAKI is drawing attention not only for his sound but also for his sophisticated and stylish attire, which defies the typical image of a DJ.
The watch that captured his discerning eye is WIRED. On the runway of Shibuya, the place where he took his first steps as a DJ and which remains his home ground, he showcases the 2nd series of WIRED.

Classical Yet Modernized Design
DJ KAWASAKI had, in fact, never worn a wristwatch before.
“But upon encountering WIRED, I felt, for the first time, that I wanted to wear a watch.”
He is highly regarded for his stylish appearance, much like his refined musicality. What was it that convinced his sharp aesthetic sense?
“I like to pair vintage clothing with Dior Homme. I’m also drawn to antique-looking designs for sunglasses, necklaces, and bags. Isn’t this WIRED exactly like that? Its classical yet modernized design is superb. The decision to wear it or not comes down to subtle details like color tone or the logo, which are exquisitely effective, making it feel like a cool accessory that immediately captivated me. And the fact that Tomoki Sukezane is the supervisor is a big factor.”
DJ KAWASAKI and Sukezane have met at events several times, and they only recently began to converse.
“Just the other day, I DJed at an event where a certain British fashion brand collaborated with Sukezane. That’s when I mentioned, ‘Actually, I’m a fan of WIRED.’ He then said, ‘The one releasing on April 24th would suit DJs and creators.’ That sealed the deal for me (laughs).”
For Casual or Dressy Occasions
The Shibuya club 'The room' is DJ KAWASAKI's home ground and the place of his origins. He was profoundly impacted by the sight of owner Shuya Okino playing jazz in a suit, tie, and sunglasses at its opening, shattering his preconceived notions of DJing.
“He looked incredibly stylish from both a musical and fashion perspective. Since then, I’ve respected Okino-san and absorbed his talent and sense up close. I consider Okino-san my mentor, and he, in turn, calls Sukezane his mentor. So, he’s my mentor’s mentor (laughs). I feel a connection; Okino-san also doesn’t usually wear a watch, but he said he’d want this one.”
When creating music, he references timeless sources from the past, such as Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross. Based on these, he links to the cutting edge of the era with innovative arrangements and approaches.
“WIRED’s approach also resonates with my method of creating music, which is why I was drawn to it. It mixes the old with the new. This has been my stance since I started DJing, it’s part of my identity. I also like to combine vintage and new clothing, which is precisely why WIRED fits perfectly. It can be worn for both casual and dressy occasions, and that’s what’s great about this watch.”
Finally, we asked him which type he preferred.
“I like the chrono type. The round ones are also classically nice. The square ones have a cute, rounded feel. They’re all so good I can’t choose. I’d love to have all the types and switch them out. The silver and white combination on the dial is elegant and has a substantial feel. I believe a watch is absolutely essential for DJs. This is because we have to play within a set time. DJ booths are usually equipped with clocks, but sometimes they aren’t, and in those cases, I’d ask them to provide one. From now on, it will be WIRED (laughs).”
The day is near when we can witness the new DJ KAWASAKI playing while wearing the "WIRED by Tomoki Sukezane" 2nd series.
