Chapter 4 Interview: Luigi Borrelli Discusses Its Allure – Miyako Akiyama of SEVENSEAS

SEVENSEAS is a magazine that introduces a high-class lifestyle to a wealthy audience through beautiful visuals and segmented information. It is a hyper-luxe magazine for those who aggressively traverse the globe, centered around the concept of 'travel as an extension of daily life'.
The feature in the current April issue is 'The Secrets of Exquisite Tailoring, Perfected in Craft and Material.' We asked Miyako Akiyama, the editor-in-chief who examines the latest relationship between the wealthy and fashion, about the allure of Luigi Borrelli.

What is the most luxurious clothing?

For the fashion feature in the April issue, I conducted wardrobe interviews with wealthy individuals in Dubai, Russia, India, and other regions, and I realized that for men, it ultimately leads to custom-made suits, shirts, and shoes.
When you pursue the richness of wearing clothes to its fullest, the two keywords are 'quality of material' and 'quality of tailoring.' When combined, items made exclusively for an individual, rather than the ready-made world of a brand, can be called the most luxurious. I understand that Luigi Borrelli also started with custom orders, making it a brand that closely aligns with the needs of SEVENSEAS readers.

I myself have ordered shirts before, and once you experience the feeling of your body moving comfortably within the fabric, you are convinced of its superior comfort and quality. The feeling of wearing something well-fitted and good boosts your confidence and encourages you forward. I believe it's an era of dignity for everyone, not just women, and experience is essential for elegant style.

It's been two years since I became the editor-in-chief of SEVENSEAS, and I've recently come to realize, with a true sense of conviction, that true luxury lies in 'experience.' Accumulating experiences, such as custom orders for clothing, leads to ascending to the next stage.

Are there such cherished possessions in Tokyo?

At SEVENSEAS, we have organized the 'Seven Seas Club,' comprising annual subscribers and their families, to host various events that deepen interaction among our readers. While I and other editorial staff participate in parties and other gatherings, I often find myself drawn to the warmth of meticulous craftsmanship evident in the collar stitching and buttonholes of shirts worn by members, or the wonderfully comfortable materials of jackets that fit their bodies so well. The subtle display of aesthetic sense conveys a commitment to detail, which I believe symbolizes their lifestyle.

I stayed in Italy and also traveled through the southern regions. Naples possesses a strong, distinct culture of 'Made in Napoli,' and its people take pride in their land and way of life. Unfortunately, Tokyo lacks such cherished possessions. It must be a great happiness to be able to conduct business with things one can love.

With the opening of Roppongi Hills five years ago, its image has become quite established. With the opening of 'Luigi Borrelli Roppongi Hills' on Keyakizaka-dori, I hope to see men adorned in elegant Italian fashion strolling through Hills.
I would certainly like to request women's custom orders in the future.
