Chapter 1 History: Luigi Borrelli – A Century of Brilliance

Chapter 1: Luigi Borrelli Shines for a Century
A Three-Generation Story: Anna, Luigi, and Fabio

The history of Luigi Borrelli, a leading Italian high-quality menswear brand, is famously known to have begun as a shirt manufacturer in Naples in 1957. However, the story actually starts over fifty years earlier, with a shirt tailored by a single woman.

A Life Dedicated to Shirtmaking

In 1904, Anna Borrelli tailored shirts for her neighbors in her home at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, famous in Japan as Mount Vesuvio. This marked the beginning of the Borrelli family's history.
Anna's shirts quickly gained a reputation, and the stylish men of Naples eagerly began to wear them.

In 1918, Anna established an atelier and dedicated her life to shirtmaking. This was inherited by her son, Luigi.

Mr. Luigi Borrelli

In 1957, Luigi founded a shirt manufacturer named "Luigi Borrelli," marking the birth of "Camiceria Napoletana" (Neapolitan shirtmaking).
In an era dominated by flat-cut patterns and stiffly constructed shirts, Luigi meticulously studied the human body. He aimed to create shirts with the best comfort, utilizing a combination of sewing machines and handwork, while still being suitable for mass production.

This involved hand-finishing eight key processes of shirtmaking: sleeve attachment, collar attachment, yoke, placket, gussets, buttons, buttonholes, and bar tacks.
The gentle, yet precise stitching by skilled artisans creates a soft feel and durability.

Challenging the Total Luxury Brand

In the 1980s, Luigi's son, Fabio Borrelli, joined the company. They expanded beyond their world-renowned shirts to also produce Cravatta (ties). Furthermore, starting in 1999, they gathered skilled tailors to establish a system for producing suits and jackets. In 2001, with the same philosophy as their shirts, they embarked on a journey as a total fashion brand, offering suits, jackets, outerwear, blousons, trousers, jeans, knitwear, underwear, and accessories, all pursuing superior comfort and the highest quality.

A Brand Philosophy: "Looking Back to Move Forward"

Fabio has faithfully embraced the great legacy passed down from Anna and Luigi, further enhancing the charm of handmade craftsmanship through research and refinement.
The exquisite balance of carefully selected fine materials, exceptional tailoring techniques inherited from Neapolitan tradition, and a unique sense of color harmonizes to promise the ultimate wearing comfort. Through the fusion of past traditions and present sophistication, Luigi Borrelli's innovation knows no bounds.
