Cartier: Establishing the Concept of Luxury Eyewear
Cartier eyewear is a solid work of craftsmanship built upon the traditional techniques inherited from its watch and jewelry manufacturing. The production takes place at a manufacture that carries on a tradition of eyewear production dating back to 1887. Here, 50 different professions gather under one roof, handling all processes from eyewear design to manufacturing in an integrated manner.
Initially, they produced one-of-a-kind items such as opera glasses and folding spectacles made from tortoiseshell.
Through carefully selected materials, meticulous details, and the unparalleled craftsmanship that artisans relentlessly pursue, Cartier eyewear has established its tradition. This heritage continues to be passed down as the Maison's identity even today.
Then, in 1983, the model known as "Vendôme" was unveiled alongside the "Must" collection as the first eyewear collection. With its pilot-shaped frame, a symbol of the Maison, its lightness, the three godron (stacked) decorations, the "C" logo on the temples, and its red accents, it became an iconic model for the Maison and established the concept of luxury eyewear.
Thirty years later, in 2013, a reissue of the legendary "Vendôme" eyewear appeared as the "2013 Limited Edition de Cartier." These are more modern models, featuring silver or gold metal accented with red, black, or caramel leather.
Recently, the legendary model garnered significant attention when worn by Keisuke Honda, a member of the Japan National Football Team. His choice seemed to strongly reflect his stoic mentality and unique dedication.
Cartier, as a jeweler, incorporates similar techniques in eyewear production, such as hand-setting, diamond polishing, lacquer application, and engraving. Furthermore, to pursue meticulous attention to detail, strict quality control checks are implemented at each stage of manufacturing. Cartier, which has always dedicated its passion to the art it creates, transforms eyewear into jewelry, bestowing even the eyes with a noble radiance.
