ITTY-BITTY | Spring/Summer 2014 Collection

ITTY-BITTY
A new balance for familiar items, unseen by most.

This season's theme: "Multiplied by the multicolor."

"In our garment creation, ITTY-BITTY focuses on the expression of color," say designers Tomoyo Yonezawa and Masanori Uda. "We want our pieces to be timeless from the moment they're released, not appreciated only after time has passed."We aim to create pieces that are loved regardless of the era, that are not swayed by trends," they explain.

We want you to feel the balance of look and background, and the atmosphere.

What is the theme/concept for the Spring/Summer 2014 collection?

This season's theme is "Multiplied by the multicolor." For our materials, we've focused on "hiding" a variety of unexpected colors in ways that aren't immediately apparent.
At first glance, you might not clearly see what's there. But it's undeniably present, and its presence creates a depth, shadow, and subtle nuance that could never be achieved otherwise.
You won't find obviousness or flashiness in this season's materials. However, we believe that as the wearer spends time with them, experiencing various scenes, lights, and emotions, these materials will subtly change their expression and quietly resonate with the heart.

What were your priorities for this season's lookbook shoot, and what should people pay attention to?

As with our garment creation, ITTY-BITTY focuses on the expression of color. Unlike studio shoots, location shoots take place under natural light. Therefore, we paid attention to how colors appear in natural light, how they look against the scenery, and their proportions during the shoot. We hope you'll appreciate the balance between the looks and the background, and the overall atmosphere.

What are the differences in styling, silhouette, and color compared to last year's Spring/Summer collection?

We're releasing many products made from linen for spring and summer. Until last year, we used linen to express a natural, craft-like texture. This season, however, by extensively using ramie, we've shifted to a more modern and solid texture.

What is the key look (coordination) this season?

A look featuring a coat and shirt layered together, made from a material woven with silk nep yarn and ramie on an old shuttle loom.
To fully enjoy this material, which has a moist yet firm texture and a subtle sheen, we deliberately layered the same material. By using the same material for both the outer and inner garments, we can also bring out various expressions through shading.

What are the key items and key colors?

The key item is a single-layer stand-fall collar coat with a shirt-like feel. The sleeves are cut as one piece from the shoulder, with the inner sleeve and part of the body also being one piece, and the shape is created by connecting parts at the sleeve, armhole, and shoulder areas. This pattern design results in a more rounded silhouette.
The material was woven using an old shuttle loom, allowing us to achieve a textured feel with a moist quality.

What "materials" did you focus on this season?

Until now, ITTY-BITTY has used only linen for all linen-based fabrics. This season, however, we've used ramie for almost all of our linen-blend fabrics.
Ramie is characterized by its hard, dense yarn texture and very little natural elasticity. Compared to linen, it has a stronger crispness and a sheen. While linen's unevenness appears as nep-like bumps, ramie's unevenness is a smooth, gentle slub. (Note: These characteristics may vary depending on the origin of the raw material and the spinning method.)
This season, we've extensively used ramie to shift from the natural, craft-like texture of linen to a more modern, sharp, and solid feel.
