Layering jersey items to express adult playfulness

A refreshing atmosphere with spring-like colors

"Every season, I don't set a theme and focus on the mood of the moment when creating," says designer Hiroshi Kuramoto. Although it's a jersey brand, this season they are offering coats, jackets, vests, and shirts, all made from jersey material.

Enjoying total coordination with jersey this season

What is the theme/concept for the Spring/Summer 2014 collection?

While there isn't a specific theme, the mood for this season is a refreshing atmosphere with spring-like colors.

What were the points you focused on and what should people pay attention to in this season's look shoot?

Although the colors are bright, we aimed for an adult, playful atmosphere so as not to appear childish.

What are the differences in styling, silhouette, and color compared to last year's Spring/Summer collection?

Last spring and summer, we strongly focused on the finish of individual items, as befits a jersey brand. However, this season, we are releasing various items such as coats, jackets, vests, and shirts made from jersey material. They can be coordinated with our standard T-shirts and sweatshirts for a complete look.

What is the key look (coordination) for this season?

It's the look featuring the new short coat. It's a light and refreshing coordination suitable for spring, but we've created a relaxed, adult atmosphere without being childish.
The appeal of jersey material is its lightness and comfort, so we've made it possible to enjoy layering many jersey items and still achieve an adult look without relying on woven fabrics. The jacket cardigan made of the same material is finished in a similar way.

Recommended: A firm fabric that is light and soft yet holds its shape

What are the key items and key colors?

The key item is the short coat described above. It's made from a unique, specially firm fabric. Since the fabric is jersey, we put the utmost effort into the silhouette to ensure a good balance and avoid it becoming too casual.
We utilized the balance of three elements – fabric, silhouette, and fine details – such as interlining in the collar to make it stand up cleanly, the four-hole covered buttons, and the raw-cut finish. Additionally, the original random border T-shirt is an item where we carefully considered the border pitch through trial and error.

What "materials" did you focus on this season?

It's the fabric used for the short coat, our key item, and also for the jackets. It's made from a special fabric knitted with two yarns simultaneously. Generally, it's a jersey material used for T-shirts, but because it's firmer and has more body than conventional jersey, it's an item that can be used for coats and jackets without losing its shape, while still offering the lightness and comfort of jersey.
The borders used on the jackets are also made from the same pre-dyed yarns and knitted using the same method. We recommend this fabric, which is light and soft like jersey, yet firm and structured.

What are your personal goals for 2014, whether for work or private life?

Our standard goal is to continue delivering the "FLISTFIA" essence steadily and reliably, just as we always have. However, our primary goal is to create collections that, with only slight changes, evoke a sense of significant evolution, avoiding drastic shifts or trying to do too much at once, while maintaining our signature style.
