Trunk Show Features Especially Rare Items (By Appointment)
The Spectacle's trunk show presents a curated selection of newly discovered vintage and antique eyewear, presented every two years. While The Spectacle itself is a treasure trove of rare glasses, this event also showcases exceptionally scarce pieces, including antique frames referred to as "Museum Pieces."
This time, Adam Cowfer, an expert in antique and vintage eyewear and the right-hand man to Jay Owens, President of Retrospecs Inc. (the company behind The Spectacle) and an antique frame collector, will visit Japan. He will share insights into the eras, origins, and untold stories behind the frames directly with visitors.
The Spectacle's regular collection includes high-quality antique gold-filled metal frames from the 1920s to the early 1970s, available in a wide range of styles from Boston and round to teardrop shapes. The collection also features plastic frames known as "Zyl" from the 1950s-60s, and browline combination glasses. Iconic frames worn by notable figures such as John F. Kennedy, Woody Allen, Bill Evans, and Malcolm X, which defined their eras, are also part of the regular collection.
New Vintage Frames Arriving for This Trunk Show
This trunk show introduces new vintage frames, including LIBERTY's "KEW," an oversized design that was a major hit across the US; AMERICAN OPTICAL's "Insight," a bold yet classic modern model from the 1960s; the now-rare "Torro" and "Cosima" models from Rodenstock, which produced the finest quality eyewear in Germany from the 1950s-70s; and Artcraft's "FF-FV Minimal."
Additionally, rare frames will be available, such as vintage models "FDR" and "Arnel" from Tart, a New York-based company known for pioneering the trend of eyewear as fashion in America. These are frames you won't find anywhere else.
