Winners Announced for "Prada Journal" Literary Contest


Eyewear Launched to Commemorate Cultural Initiative



On October 23rd, Prada announced the winners of its literary contest, held this spring at the Prada Epicenter in New York. The contest, themed around the Prada Journal's question, "Is what we see the truth? Does the scenery viewed through our eyes or lenses truly reflect reality?", received 1,313 submissions from Japan, China, the United States, Russia, Europe, and other countries worldwide. Eyewear played a key role in this cultural initiative, and products inspired by the contest were also released.

Focusing on Words Through the Lenses of Optical Frames



The organizers of the Prada Journal literary contest stated, "Prada is a globally renowned fashion company that has consistently supported cultural activities and emerging artists. With a distinct philosophy rooted in the development of artistic 'language,' Prada provides resources to create opportunities for young artists to express their talents and showcase their work.
A strong and unique approach was also crucial for the eyewear collection. Prada chose to focus on the world of written words, hence the literary contest. This project reflects the brand's intellectual stance, conveying more than just fashion. This is the essence of Prada Journal."

The literary contest selected five winners: Mattia Conti, Leisl Egan, Angel Mario Fernández, Sarah Harris Wallman, and Peng Yang. Each winner received a €5,000 prize, and their winning works will be published as a digital book on the official Prada website, prada.com, at the end of 2013.

The event, which began at 7 PM on October 23rd, was hosted by Oliver Platt, with Jonathan Ames, Zoe Kazan, Anthony Mackie, Jay McInerney, and Gary Shteyngart reading the award-winning works by the respective winners. DJ Jeffrey Tonnesen energized the atmosphere at the cocktail party that followed the event.

In a world saturated with images, Prada emphasized the power of words, sharply focusing on language through the lenses of optical frames. Eyewear, in turn, becomes a special tool for exploring the surrounding reality and reconstructing that world through words.This was the message conveyed at the event.
