Aiming to Raise Awareness Among Younger Generations for Ocean Protection

This project will be carried out over four months, from February to May 2020, targeting secondary and high schools worldwide.

The goal is to promote sustainable consumption patterns, in line with the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), by educating younger generations about the ocean and its resources, fostering awareness, and encouraging responsible behavior.
Specifically, over the next few months, high school teachers from ten cities worldwide—Berlin, Mexico City, Johannesburg, Lisbon, London, Milan, New York, Paris, Shanghai, and Venice—will participate in online seminars. They will learn how to develop an educational module consisting of four lessons dedicated to sustainability.

Students will also participate in the fourth lesson, where they will develop awareness campaigns for marine conservation. An international jury composed of representatives from Prada and UNESCO will select the most outstanding campaigns, which will be presented at the 2nd UN Ocean Conference held in Lisbon from June 2nd to June 6th, 2020. These campaigns will subsequently be shared through Prada and UNESCO's channels and official websites.

Lorenzo Bertelli, Head of Marketing and Communications at Prada Group, commented:

"The promotion of culture and education is a fundamental part of Prada Group's sustainability strategy. Our partnership with UNESCO aligns with this commitment and creates a direct channel for engagement with students globally. We are proud that our innovative product development and commitment to sustainable materials have led to the creation of this project to raise ocean awareness."
Vladimir Ryabinin, Executive Secretary of the IOC and Assistant Director-General of UNESCO, stated: "The challenges facing our oceans are global in scale, meaning they cannot be solved by one country or organization alone. Together with the Prada Group, we aim to engage students worldwide in this field and channel their youthful energy and creativity into fostering a society with greater ocean literacy."
