HUM & RAWER Autumn/Winter 2013-14 Collection
HUM & RAWER
A collection that applies the "CUT UP" technique, used in text and music, to clothing.
Enjoying the hybrid of casual and dress.
"This season, outerwear is exclusively coats. We've created authentic items that honor tradition, such as single-breasted coats made from British ventile® cotton and Chester coats using fabric from Italy's PONTETORTO," says Hiroaki Hamada, designer of "HUM & RAWER." He explains this season's theme, "CUT UP."

Expressing "the inner and outer self" through layered items.
──What is the theme/concept for the 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection?
This season's theme is "CUT UP." The merging of casual and dress elements is CUT UP, and we propose it as the fundamental style of HUM & RAWER.
Outerwear is exclusively coats, while innerwear features crazy-patterned gingham shirts, reversible shirts with deliberately mixed front and back fabrics, and details like added zippers and raw-cut collars, reflecting the theme strongly.
By layering these items and concealing them with traditional coats, we expressed "the inner and outer self."
──What were your points of focus and what should people pay attention to in this season's look shoot?
The shots of the hat and Chesterfield coat in a sterile concrete space are inspired by William Burroughs, the American writer who contributed to the development of the "CUT UP" technique. By inserting photos taken with an instant camera into the digital images, we further reflect the theme.
──What is the key look (coordination) for this season?
The look on the upper left of the photo: a crazy-patterned gingham shirt layered with a box-silhouette check shirt, over which a purple Chesterfield coat is worn.
──What are the key items and key colors?
The key item is a purple Chesterfield coat made from melton wool by Italy's PONTETORTO. The key color is a composition of dark tones throughout.
──What "materials" did you focus on this season?
Waterproof cotton from Britain's Ventile® and melton wool from Italy's PONTETORTO.
──What is the rewarding aspect of being a designer?
There's always the joy of bringing what's in my head into form. Of course, there are failures, and sometimes things exceed expectations.
I feel it's a great happiness to be able to communicate with people, from acquaintances to those I've never met, through the medium of clothing.
──A message to your fans.
I want to continue creating better things. Please come and experience them in stores.
