URU Autumn/Winter 2013-14 Collection

URU

The annual theme is "voyage," focusing on the "journey" that fosters personal growth.

Clothing born from the keyword "journey."

Brand concept: Accelerate Creativity Accelerate Imagination (accelerating imagination (head) and technical skill (hands)).──Regarding this season's lookbook shoot, designer Masaharu Urushiyama explains URU's latest collection: "This time, we approached it with the feeling of creating a style book rather than just a lookbook. Lookbooks can sometimes lean too artistic, so we opted for a style book format to showcase the clothing more effectively."

Garments that evoke an emotional connection, unforgettable from the first wear.

──What is the theme/concept for the 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection?

URU does not set seasonal themes; instead, one overarching theme is reflected across all collections throughout the year. This year's theme, "voyage," literally means navigation or voyage, but we've interpreted it more broadly, focusing on the act of journeying.
Journeys are said to foster personal growth. Clothing for the journey: from arriving at the airport, boarding a plane, to reaching the destination. Journeys seeking spiritual healing, aimless wandering, or seeking enjoyment in resorts.──A journey reveals one's true essence. At URU, we've designed clothing that can be created from this keyword, "journey."

──What are the key looks (coordinations) this season?

URU does not categorize "key looks"; every look holds significance. We propose coordinations that allow the theme to be felt through the flow of the looks.

──What are the key items and key colors?

The key item is a felt cap made in mocha and purple. Also, URU has never used black as a brand; our collections are based on navy and gray, with the addition of wild pink, blue gray, purple, and mocha this season.

──What "materials" did you focus on this season?

The "latch pile" cut-and-sew series. Although it's named pile, its composition is not that of a typical pile fabric. While regular pile is knitted on a single machine, this latch pile is knitted on a jacquard machine. More precisely, it's a jacquard fabric woven with a pile-like pattern. The face is pile-like, but the reverse is jersey, making it exceptionally comfortable to wear.

──What is the rewarding aspect of being a designer?

I'm not just doing the typical work of a designer. I'm involved in all aspects of the process, and I run the brand with the confidence that I am creating everything myself. Therefore, I find fulfillment in all the work I do right now.

──A message to your fans.

I want to create clothes that evoke an emotional connection, unforgettable from the first wear.
