FILL THE BILL Autumn/Winter 2013-14 Collection
FILL THE BILL
This season's theme is "BLUE," representing the Earth, or nature.
A strikingly beautiful flower blooming in a dim forest.
The theme for "FILL THE BILL" this season is "BLUE." "We've expressed the overall image of 'a strikingly beautiful flower blooming in a dim forest' with the feeling of replacing the flower with people," says designer Junichi Kaneda. Here's an explanation of the latest collection.

Expressing nature's strength, beauty, tranquility, and fear through clothing.
—What is the theme/concept for the 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection?
The theme "BLUE" represents the Earth, or nature. We've translated nature's strength, beauty, tranquility, and fear into clothing. The collection expresses strength through functionality and the completeness of the items, beauty and tranquility through design, and fear through the overall styling, colors, and photography.
—What were your priorities for this season's look shoot, and what should people pay attention to?
It's difficult to connect the theme directly with the actual clothes, as it's purely an image, so we sometimes change colors on location to match the background. I always value what I feel when I'm on site. This time, it happened to rain, which created the dim atmosphere we envisioned, so in that sense, we were lucky.
—What are the key looks (coordinations) for this season?
Please pay attention to outerwear that blends with the natural colors of the forest, shirts and jackets inspired by beautiful leaves and flowers, thick indigo denim pants with a lumberjack image, and black denim or navy sets that evoke a dark forest.
—What are the key items and key colors?
Among the items, the "reversible athletic down jacket" has a stadium jacket design on one side and a quilted design using MA-1 material on the other. It's also highly insulating due to the down filling, making it a unique piece. The "washable wool bonded sweater" uses cotton on the back to prevent itchiness. We propose it as an item between a sweatshirt and a sweater. The "flight jacket made of goat leather" features custom-made lining and ribbing. It's a light yet durable item that takes advantage of goat leather's properties.
The key colors are army green and pale purple.
—What materials did you focus on this season?
This season, we've created more original fabrics than ever before. Among them, the cotton-wool twill fabric is particularly noteworthy. It uses wool for the warp and cotton for the weft, but with a special dyeing method called cation dyeing, we've created a texture with unevenness, despite being wool. This is our top recommendation for this season's fabric. We want to continue creating fabrics like this, which may seem plain at first glance, with great care.
—What is the rewarding aspect of being a designer?
My own vision becomes concrete through the tool of clothing. I believe that for anyone involved in manufacturing, or in the position of a designer, seeing one's ideals become reality is the greatest happiness, not just in fashion.
