NuGgETS 2013-14 Autumn/Winter Collection
NuGgETS
Introducing first leather items, crafted from the kudu leather that captured our hearts.
Returning to our roots in our third year.
“While we don’t set a theme each season, the concept is always our origin,” says Ryuhei Kohoshi, designer of NuGgETS. “This season, I’ve returned to the design methods and materials I chose when the brand first started. I wanted to mark a milestone after three years (six exhibitions). I think it also reflects my feelings for the next season.” What is the 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection?

How different can the visuals be, using the same model and location as before?
—What were the key points you focused on for this season's lookbook shoot, and what should people pay attention to?
First, how much could we change things while using the same model and location as last time?—That was the idea. It was less about the image and more about my feelings towards the photographer and stylist who create NuGgETS' visuals.
This is our third shoot with the same team, and I currently don't like the idea of changing the image every season or shooting in many different locations. Within those constraints, we came up with various ideas and communicated well. On the day of the shoot, the approach ended up being completely different from the plan, but I felt we captured a great live energy that can only be experienced on set.
—What are the key looks (outfits) this season?
When wearing a set of patterned items, the usual rule is to match the colors of the top and bottom. However, I think the styling that broadens the range of coordination by using different colors for the top and bottom is quite striking.
—What are the key items and key colors?
Three types of shirts and pants that express the ombre check pattern using dots. I wanted to use ombre check while considering a shift in values and a different approach, which led to the dot expression. This was influenced by Roy Lichtenstein's pop art concepts.
—What is the "material" you focused on this season?
Leather. This is the first time we've used it this season, and I learned so much from the leather suppliers. Beyond the types and characteristics of leather, we discussed handling "hides" that were once living creatures, and the mindset of a professional representing a company. That's how I encountered kudu leather. It was the first time I had seen or heard of it, and I fell in love at first sight. The texture and how it absorbs oil are superb.
—What is the rewarding aspect of being a designer?
I enjoy expressing my ideas and worldview, and the friction that comes with clashing with others. You can't make excuses, and everything is seen through.
—A message to your fans.
Receiving individual orders at exhibitions, orders from buyers, and then customers purchasing items in stores – these events are truly invaluable. This feeling grows stronger with each exhibition. It's this connection and continuity that has allowed us to reach our third year. Thank you very much.
And we look forward to your continued support! (laughs)
