Tenugui and bags that perfectly harmonize with Fred Perry's 'Laurel'
For Fred Perry's 60th anniversary special project, over 60 fashion designers, artists, musicians, and athletes from more than 15 countries created customized shirts based on Fred Perry's classic polo shirt.Fred Perry's 60th Anniversary Special ProjectSix Japanese customizers participated, and Ms. Hiroko Takahashi was one of them.
Fred Perry explains their choice: "We formed this partnership because her mission—'to create opportunities that break down preconceptions and fixed ideas about familiar things, guiding us to contemplate the essence of matters'—resonates with Fred Perry's rebellious spirit."
Focus on Hiroko Takahashi and the process at the dyeing factory (Kyowa Somezara Factory)
This "TAKAHASHI HIROKO for FRED PERRY" collection features the tenugui "100x35" and the "SLEEVE BAG." The "100x35" for the tenugui refers to its size, but it also embodies her desire for people to look beyond the name and see the essence of the object.
The "SLEEVE BAG" is crafted by sewing together a single "100x35" tenugui without any cutting, serving as a product that prompts reconsideration of how we approach objects. The circular and linear design, symbolizing her, is rendered using Chusen, a dyeing technique passed down since the Meiji era, and it harmonizes beautifully with Fred Perry's laurel.
The collaboration between Fred Perry and Hiroko Takahashi is scheduled to continue into the Spring/Summer 2014 season, building anticipation for what comes next.
