Yusuke“In February, the FENDI shop at Osaka Takashimaya was renovated, and I was invited to give a talk show as part of the event. Coincidentally, it was around the time the news of Karl Lagerfeld, the women's designer, had passed away, and many voices from various quarters expressed their sorrow. As I looked through the collections, I was once again struck by the richness and greatness of his talent.

Karl became the designer for Fendi in 1965, the same year I was born, so it's astonishing that he was active on the front lines for so long. While I admire the elegant and luxurious women's collection pieces, what I find particularly interesting are the printed items with the FF motif and playing card motifs, like the ones I've picked out this time. The illustration of 'JOKARL,' with himself as the Joker, made me do a double-take, thinking, 'Wait, is that a pun?!'

Although I never had the chance to meet Karl directly, I often saw him at parties held in Paris. It's a slight regret now that I never had the opportunity to greet him.”
