Introducing the Classic Dress Shirt
This collection, unique to Band of Outsiders, was shaped by 1930s vintage map prints, laser prints of yachts, and marine sailor motifs symbolizing the "Travel and Camping" theme. Further elements included the Bauhaus, the German art school that influenced architectural minimalism, and the blank quotation mark—a geometric pattern—along with the contrast of primary colors.
Regarding the theme, designer Scott Sternberg says, "Even if you forget about work and go traveling or camping, you eventually return to wearing suits and shirts for work. That is everyday life, and it's sustained by that balance." The symbol of this is the classic dress shirt, making its debut in this collection. Unlike Band of Outsiders' signature short, casual button-down shirts, this is a straight-collar shirt with a length perfect for tucking into trousers, lacking the box pleats at the back yoke.
The label clearly indicates the size: "15.5 INCH NECK, 33 INCH SLEEVE," and the plastic collar stays are printed with "STAY," showcasing Band of Outsiders' characteristic unique expressions in the details. The fabric is from Albini, a long-established manufacturer of shirt fabrics, and the shirts are sewn at GHERARDI, a renowned shirt factory in Florence. All production is in Italy.
Tie-dyed blazers and shorts, as well as suits, are also representative items of this season's collection. Diverse prints appear, including argyle jacquard knit sweatshirts, trompe-l'oeil rope stripes, and tie-dyed oxford shirts. Patchwork Indian Madras, indigo-dyed yacht prints, and camouflage patterns featuring California landscapes depicted in old postcard-style illustrations also showcase the wit characteristic of Band of Outsiders.
Furthermore, inspired by the old British army, where each regiment wore different regimental stripes, the brand created ties using remade fabrics from a British silk weaver. Note the explicit mention of each regiment's name on the tags.
