Vol. 12: Carry-on Trolley Bags [kériɑ:n bæ'giʤ]
Yusuke“I travel abroad several times a year for collection coverage and shoots, but I’ve actually never owned a carry-on trolley bag. For the past decade, my go-to carry-on has been a single piece of Bottega Veneta calfskin tote. However, lately, I find myself working during flights, and carrying a laptop and documents makes it feel quite heavy. Especially on long flights, I naturally end up with more belongings, so I’ve been thinking it’s about time I got a trolley.”
The ideal for a sophisticated jet-setter is to keep luggage to a minimum. But my laptop is just so heavy. Plus, I’ve developed a habit of reading on flights, and I tend to skim-read, so I always end up packing three or four books. (Incidentally, I often choose historical books, but I find I can breeze through yakuza stories and hardboiled novels on planes.) Also, I’m the type who absolutely wants to take my shoes off on the plane, so slippers or flip-flops are a must-have. Wearing flip-flops with bare feet on a plane offers a distinct sense of freedom when you take them off, so it’s a secret recommendation of mine.
All seven trolleys I’ve chosen this time are ones I genuinely want and am actually considering purchasing. Of course, I’m looking for cool designs, but I’m also very interested in their functionality, such as external pockets or sleeves for easy laptop access, smooth-rolling casters, and the thickness and grip of the handles.”
