A Whistle Cannot Attack

The Republic of the Congo, formerly known as Zaire, is currently the site of one of the world's largest ongoing conflicts. According to the International Rescue Committee (IRC), the death toll over the decade since 1998 has reached 5.4 million.

Although the use of child soldiers is prohibited under international law, in Congo and other conflict zones worldwide, countless children are abducted, forced to bear arms, and turned into killers.

Furthermore, in a harrowing reality, children too young to even hold a gun are made to stand on the front lines with whistles, used to detect danger or as a deterrent against landmines.

The genesis of FALLING WHISTLES stemmed from a blog detailing an adventure in the Republic of the Congo, which included a story about a child soldier. The whistle, their sole weapon on the front lines of battle,—FALLING WHISTLES was created to raise awareness of child soldiers, to help rescue them, and to support their rehabilitation, counseling, and reintegration into life in Congo.
