An Industry-First Collaboration!

Launched in September 2014 with the primary goal of revitalizing local regions in Japan, the "JAPAN MADE PROJECT" now enters its third phase, focusing on Tohoku. This initiative brings together BEAMS, known for its collaborations with various designers and its support for Tohoku's reconstruction efforts, and Yahoo! JAPAN's "Reconstruction Department." Together, they have realized "TOHOKU WITH LOVE," an unprecedented collaborative pop-up shop in the industry.

Participating in the "FISHERMAN JAPAN" Community

The "JAPAN MADE PROJECT" engages with local communities by highlighting traditional techniques, crafts, and products, fostering collaboration with regional industries to develop unique goods.

As part of this initiative, URBAN RESEARCH has partnered with "FISHERMAN JAPAN," a community of young fishermen primarily based in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture. Inspired by these young men who balance life at sea with a passion for skateboarding, three items have been created: the "URBAN RESEARCH JAPAN MADE × FISHERMAN JAPAN" fisherman's parka, the "URBAN RESEARCH JAPAN MADE × FISHERMAN JAPAN" sweatshirt, and the "URBAN RESEARCH JAPAN MADE × Alexander Lee Chang × FUNADE" skateboard.

The parka and sweatshirt, designed for use on fishing boats, feature a simple, functional design that allows for ease of movement and can be worn seamlessly on land. The skateboard is a special edition, crafted by the Ishinomaki brand "FUNADE" using cut-up Koinobori (carp streamers), and finished by professional skateboarder and fashion designer Alexander Lee Chang into a complete deck. Each skateboard boasts a unique pattern, making it truly one-of-a-kind.
