Based in Bergen, Norway, a city known for its abundant rainfall, the Nordic coat specialist "NORWEGIAN RAIN" has garnered attention for its functionality that surpasses outdoor wear and its stylish, modern aesthetic. The brand makes its debut at Barneys New York. Designers T-Michael and Creative Director Alexander Helle will be present at the Barneys New York Ginza store on October 17th (Saturday) with the new collection.

A Collection with "Beauty as Clothing" at its Core

The designer label named "a rain project" takes its concept from the ancient Norwegian word “dugnad,” meaning “people working together for their community, neighbors, individuals, or a common goal, without compensation.” This label is steadily making its mark in Europe's rainiest city. Now, its top brand makes its debut at Barneys New York.

Norwegian Rain is a high-tech outerwear brand born from the fusion of Japanese recycled fabrics, developed to protect against rain and wind, and traditional yet innovative menswear tailoring. The collection embodies "beauty as clothing" within an industrial, inorganic coolness.

The collection comprises men's, unisex, and women's items, ranging from classic tailoring to delicately and innovatively designed pieces. It caters to all seasons: "Extreme Winter," "All year," and "Ultra light weight summer." Every item is practical, and the urban coats and jackets are notable for their abundant use of tailoring techniques.

A Fusion of "Tradition," "Technology," and "Style"

Norwegian Rain is the brainchild of a duo: designer T-Michael, also a bespoke tailor, and Creative Director Alexander Helle. Alexander grew up in Bergen, Norway, famous for its rain, and has lived "in the rain." He comments, "Rain can be disliked or liked by people, but one thing is clear: it will rain within three days."

During a "dry" stay in Milan, Alexander conceived the idea of combining "tradition," "technology," and "style." Upon returning home, he reached out to specialists in various fields. With the support of Bergen's creative talents, including his current design partner T-Michael, graphic design studio Grandpeople, and photographer Bent Rene Synnevaag, "a rain project" became a reality.

This season features T-Michael's inspired designs, incorporating elements from Japanese military wear, resulting in highly original raincoats. All details are characterized by their blend of functionality, design, and unparalleled originality.
