A boot crafted on the same last as the 1955 loafer

Alden's first new model in 40 years: the Michigan Boot

This is Chiwaki from Lakota Inc., the sole importer of ALDEN. After years of dedicated development and countless sample iterations, Alden has finally released a completely new model, the "MICHIGAN BOOTS." These boots are now available at Lakota House Aoyama and Lakota House Osaka.

Hand-sewn stitching on the Van last creates a distinct three-dimensional form

This Michigan Boot marks Alden's first new release in approximately 40 years, since the iconic chukka boot developed in the 1970s. The design is based on the Ranger Moc, a representative moccasin shoe perfected in the 1950s, meaning this last (shoe tree) has been over 60 years in the making.

This "Van Last" is known for its use in penny loafers. Because the toe rises almost vertically from the sole, it allows for distinctive hand-sewn stitching. If the toe were rounder, there wouldn't be enough space for this precise stitching. The side panel stitching is also a striking detail.

New leather for the upper, too

The upper is crafted from Horween's "UTICA," a first for Alden. Despite its substantial thickness, the leather is supple and moist, rich in oil, and similar to glove leather. Touching it feels like a baseball glove, evoking a nostalgic sense of youth.

The outsole also uses double-oiled leather (a double specification of Water Lock leather) that repels moisture. Both the inner and outer surfaces are tough, becoming more comfortable with wear and suitable for heavy use, even in the rain.

Lakota's 6-inch boots typically feature 5 eyelets and 4 hooks, totaling 9. However, the Michigan Boot has 7 eyelets. Initial samples had 9, but after repeated prototyping and consideration for the balance with the skin stitching and side stitching, the number was reduced to 7.
