RED WING 8144 SLATE BLUE

The leather, clad in a beautiful SLATE BLUE, is RED WING's signature "Abilene Roughout." This completely limited edition model, the "RED WING 8144," will be available for exclusive pre-sale at the shop THE ARMY GYM starting around the end of March. While there's a possibility of it being carried by other shops in Japan, it's scheduled to be released in the autumn/winter season, half a year later.

A Limited Edition Made Possible Only by Red Wing

The "Slate Blue Abilene" is crafted from a single piece of leather, turned inside out so the smooth grain side (the side that was the cow's skin) faces inward, and the suede side (the fuzzy interior) faces outward.

Typically, suede is made by thinly slicing leather and using the cut surface on the inside, which corresponds to the grain side of the original hide. Therefore, using a single piece of leather with the grain side facing inward is an exceptionally luxurious manufacturing method.

This type of roughout leather is said to have originated from mountaineers who, disliking how the fine scratches on the leather's surface could compromise waterproofing and durability, began constructing their boots with the grain side facing inward. It remains a common choice for outdoor, work, and military footwear today.

This product, made possible by Red Wing's ownership of its own tannery, features a beautiful blue-grey hue that will uniquely complement your spring and summer styles.
