Focus on the First Autumn/Winter Collection

──What is the theme/concept for the 2014-15 Autumn/Winter collection?

This season's theme is "Everyday Life on a Journey." We embrace the contradictions of being relaxed yet luxurious, tense yet comfortable, creating a free, borderless sense that defies rules and conventions.
SIZRI BASIC reinterprets familiar patterns and colors with a modern sensibility, defining Japanese hues.
This is a brand for adults, targeting men who know themselves and can discern true value, as well as those who, despite busy work and daily lives, cherish their leisure time, family, and personal moments.

──What were the key points and aspects you wanted to highlight in this season's lookbook shoot?

We shot with a theme of a sophisticated journey, capturing a unisex appeal that can be enjoyed by women as well as men, and a playful spirit. This season's garments, crafted from exquisite materials that envelop a traveling couple, will be your enduring companions.

──What are the differences in styling, silhouette, and color compared to last year's Autumn/Winter collection?

This is our first Autumn/Winter collection. We want you to experience the ultimate comfort of superb materials and the excellence of our tailoring.

──What is the key look (coordination) for this season?

It's the photograph of two people wearing Chester coats with horses (top center). The men's Chester coat made from vicuña and the women's Chester coat made from hemp and yak are items crafted from exceptionally luxurious and rare materials, seldom used in today's global market.
The properties of these fabrics are like jewels gifted by the earth, inspiring us humans. Furthermore, as these fabrics are produced without harming animals, they represent coexistence between humans and these fellow mammals.
We envision clothing for the future to be made from natural materials that are functional, gently embracing the body, and embodying the culmination of human ingenuity in their tailoring.

Material Dedication Creates Exceptional Comfort

──What are the key items and key colors?

All SIZRI BASIC items are made from natural fibers. The key colors are the natural hues of the materials themselves, along with navy, based on the color of the sea.
The vicuña and yak colors are presented in their natural state, without any artificial processing. These natural colors are difficult to replicate and their inherent beauty is truly captivating.
Navy, a color that can be a wardrobe staple for years, also evokes the deep sea, fitting for Japan, an island nation surrounded by water.

──What "materials" were you particular about this season?

Our cashmere knitwear, made from luxurious Alashan cashmere top yarn, is designed to resist losing its shape and last for years, thanks to domestic Japanese craftsmanship. Its exceptionally soft and smooth texture ensures a comfortable, warm feel.

The vicuña Chester coat requires a national shipping certificate from Peru to be used. Vicuña hunting is prohibited under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), and under strict regulations, vicuña wool can only be shorn during a ritual held once every two years (after shearing, the vicuñas are released). Each animal yields less than 250 grams of wool, from which coarse guard hairs are removed, leaving only the delicate fibers. It takes wool from six animals to create a single sweater.
The annual production, assuming all of it were used for coats, is said to be enough for only 350 pieces. Most of this is consumed in Europe, with only a few pieces reportedly reaching Japan each year. Consequently, it's safe to say that very few tailors in Japan hold vicuña stock.
Furthermore, a portion of the profits from the sale of vicuña wool contributes to conservation efforts. Unlike fur, it's wonderful that coexistence is possible. Poaching carries severe prison sentences. As it is a protected species, there's a possibility that even shearing may be prohibited in the future.

The yak and hemp Chester coat. Yak, known for its excellent warmth and water resistance, is warm even in deep winter and is a luxurious natural fiber comparable to cashmere. Its fine, long fibers have a sheen and elasticity, making it resistant to wrinkles. Its cold-weather protection is said to be superior to cashmere.
