Introducing the womens line this season

What is the harmony that allows us to exist amidst various "fronts and backs"?
The latest collection asks

"We shot the lookbook concurrently with the men's collection because we launched the women's line this season," says Hiroyuki Ueyama, designer of "semoh." We want to draw attention to this collection, which conveys an image of "lustre and warmth," much like the relationship between men and women.

"Something like the least common multiple of human relationships"

──What is the theme/concept for the 2014-15 Autumn/Winter collection?

We believe that the primary means by which people express themselves and recognize others are "words exchanged and clothes worn." What is the harmony that allows us to exist amidst various "fronts and backs"? I want to explore the harmony between the sense of liberation one feels at home and the sense of tension one feels when going out, in the clothes that many people, including myself, wear daily.

──What were the points you focused on for this season's look shoot, and what should people pay attention to?

We shot the lookbook concurrently with the men's collection because we launched the women's line this season. It was significant not only to capture individual looks but also the space where the male and female models were together. While there's no particular meaning in the relationship between men and women, we wanted to touch upon something like the least common multiple of human relationships, which isn't necessarily romantic. We thought about the most basic relationship from which various emotions arise, and we wanted to explore the tension inherent in that relationship.

──What are the differences in styling, silhouette, and color compared to last year's Autumn/Winter collection?

I think we had a stronger image of lustre and warmth than last year. In terms of materials, lustre might be represented by glossy silk, and warmth by something a bit rougher, like brushed fabric.

──What is the key look (coordination) for this season?

There isn't a specific key look. We hope you'll appreciate the overall atmosphere.

Various types of "hair" appear

──What are the key items and key colors?

There are no specific key items for the same reason as the key looks. Regarding colors, in addition to blue, which I naturally like, this season we incorporated camel, made from camel hair. We've combined blue and beige gradients through items and coordination.

──What "materials" did you focus on this season?

Perhaps "hair." We intentionally used more hairy materials, so various types of hair appear. In our knit series, which we produce every autumn and winter, we used wool that has been heavily felted, as well as materials with long pile. By using various types of hair, we explored different expressions in terms of background, appearance, texture, and warmth.

──What do you expect from the web magazine OPENERS (http://openers.jp/)?

I hope it remains a media outlet where one can feel a unique sense of values.
