Expressing a Mix of Archive and Modernity
──What is the theme/concept for the 2014-15 Autumn/Winter collection?
This season's theme is "PULL MY DAISY." We drew inspiration from the wardrobe and surrounding events of Robert Frank, the renowned photographer of the Beat Generation. We expressed the monochrome worldview found in his photo book "THE AMERICANS" through our apparel.
──What were the key points and aspects you wanted to emphasize in this season's look shoot?
We expressed the transition from monochrome to sepia through the apparel, and by deliberately using color in the photography, we created a mix of archive and modern sensibilities.
──What are the differences in styling, silhouette, and color compared to last year's Autumn/Winter collection?
This time, we've reduced the number of colors and also limited the types of materials used. Unlike the previous collection, we've incorporated more jersey fabrics and created a relaxed feel with looser silhouettes.
──What is the key look (coordination) for this season?
The styling with the anorak parka and hat, shown on the bottom left. The coordination featuring the olive green anorak parka, reminiscent of military wear, is exactly in the style of Robert Frank.
Key Colors: Black, Gray, Camel (Sepia), Olive
──What are the key items and key colors?
The key items are the anorak parka, inspired by the military jacket that was Robert Frank's uniform, and the Chesterfield coat, favored by the Beats in "PULL MY DAISY." The key colors are black, gray, camel (sepia), and olive.
──What "materials" did you focus on this season?
We used a jersey material with a crispness akin to woven fabric. Using Super 140 yarn finished in a smooth knit and then felted, we achieved an intermediate texture between woven fabric and jersey. For the wool x silk double-face material, we used thick, light yarn resembling wool, bonded with fine silk yarn for a reversible finish. Woven on a shuttle loom, it results in a soft and nuanced texture.
──What are your expectations for the web magazine OPENERS (http://openers.jp/)?
We are very grateful that you have featured our collections and interviews every season since our debut. We hope you will continue to pursue your unique path with OPENERS.
