doublet
The latest collection emphasizes comfort and enjoyment.
This season's theme is "Nostalcity"
Founded in 2012 and launched for the Spring/Summer 2013 season, the brand "doublet" offers a total collection from apparel to accessories, based on basic and standard items, with a concept of "uncomfortably familiar everyday wear" mixed with unexpected ideas.

"Nostalcity": A blend of "Nostalgia" and "city"
――What is the theme/concept for the 2014-15 Autumn/Winter collection?
This season's theme is "Nostalcity," a coined word blending "Nostalgia" and "city." The collection is created by layering urban imagery, such as clean and sporty aesthetics, onto rustic elements that evoke nostalgia, like Nordic patterns, corduroy, and blanket checks. We've created pieces that coexist with contrasting elements: sweaters with patterns that break off mid-way, logo embroidery that transforms into fringe, reindeer patterns typically seen in low-gauge knits rendered realistically in high-gauge knit... and a windbreaker coat that looks like denim but feels like windbreaker material.
――What were the key points and what should we look out for in this season's lookbook shoot?
For the brand's first location shoot, we chose a place that was both urban and had a sense of age, fitting the theme, to create a sense of unity with the clothing.
――What are the differences in styling, silhouette, and color compared to last year's Autumn/Winter collection?
Compared to last season, which had a stronger sense of mode, we've added elements that are easier to incorporate into street style, enhancing the everyday feel to broaden styling options and occasions. While previous collections considered the body's lines, this season emphasizes comfort and enjoyment without stress.
――What is the key look (coordination) for this season?
The key look, when viewed as a whole outfit, is a coordination that blends into the city: a setup with an inner down vest, a cap, a clutch bag, and sneakers (bottom right). However, looking at each item individually reveals more: the setup features partial blanket-pattern checks, the inner down vest is actually faux fur used as padding, encased in organza so the fur peeks through. The cap, though not visible from this angle, is embroidered with city names, and the thread transitions into fringe mid-way. The shoes that appear to be sneakers are actually leather shoes with laser-etched patterns of mesh, eyelets, and stitching from a sneaker. We coordinated these pieces to look ordinary, hoping the viewer would sense something subtly unusual.
Focus on materials that provide warmth for the dead of winter
――What are the key items and key colors?
This season, we've balanced earthy tones like gray, brown, and ivory with vibrant colors such as shocking pink and peacock green.
――What "materials" were you particular about this season?
Regarding materials, we used a fabric that looks like denim at first glance—woven with indigo-dyed cotton warp threads and white polyester weft threads in a chambray weave—but has the feel and sheen of a windbreaker. This fabric is bonded with a windproof lining material typically used for parkas. Functionally, it offers the same windproofing as a windbreaker while blending into street style. Like real denim, it fades and develops wear marks with each wash, allowing the user to enjoy its aging process. We've created a stadium collar coat and pants using this material. This coat, paired with just a hoodie, provides enough warmth to get through mid-winter.
――What "things, people, or phenomena" are you currently paying attention to in the fashion scene?
Takuno Morikawa, the designer of "Taakk." As his debut season was with the same brand, we share many similarities in our thinking, so I always keep an eye on him from a competitive perspective.
――What are your expectations for the web magazine OPENERS (http://openers.jp/)?
I hope that through articles published on OPENERS, which also covers various cultural information beyond fashion, more people will become aware of doublet.
