NUDE:MASAHIKO MARUYAMA | Fall/Winter 2014-15 Collection

NUDE:MASAHIKO MARUYAMA | 2014-15 Autumn/Winter Collection

Layered style of the brand's signature mod coat is the key look.

This autumn/winter comes in two colorways: monochrome and beige gray.

“Since the age range of those who wear NUDE:MASAHIKO MARUYAMA is wide, we pay close attention to the models and hair/makeup to ensure they don't look too boyish,” says designer Masahiko Maruyama, explaining the points of the look shoot. This season's highlight is undoubtedly the introduction of 'beige gray.' A new individuality has been added to his signature monochrome world.

What is the theme/concept for the 2014-15 Autumn/Winter collection?

While we don't have a specific theme each season, our concept is to pursue minimalist designs that emphasize material and silhouette, allowing mature individuals to wear them stylishly. We aim for a balance between avant-garde and wearability.

What were the key points you focused on for this season's look shoot, and what should people pay attention to?

This season, we styled and shot two distinct color proposals: the signature monochrome and beige gray, presented in a clear and understandable manner. We aimed to express the subtle differences through styling with different materials, even within the same color family.

What are the differences in styling, silhouette, and color compared to last year's Autumn/Winter collection?

Previous autumn/winter collections were primarily monochrome, but the major difference this season is the introduction of two colorways: monochrome and beige gray. The styling also unifies the entire look with each respective color. In terms of silhouette, we've used thicker shoulder pads in the tailored jackets to create a more structured form.

What is the key look (coordination) for this season?

The key look is, as always, the layered style featuring NUDE:MASAHIKO MARUYAMA's signature mod coat. While it's a staple, we've continued to make subtle changes to the design, silhouette, and materials each season, and I feel we've reached a perfected design. We opened the zippers on the sleeves and back to create volume, and layered it with a long cotton-wool parka underneath to propose a voluminous layered style.

Focus on the vest that can be layered over a coat.

What are the key items and key colors?

The key item is the vest worn by the model in the photo above. It features large openings on the sides, and by adjusting the width with the belt, it can be layered over thin shirts, thick jackets, or even coats. The key colors are black and beige gray.

What 'materials' did you focus on this season?

The coat on the upper right is made from an original fabric woven with wool roving yarn. Its characteristics include thick, soft yarn and a texture resembling a low-gauge knit, despite being a woven fabric.

What 'things, people, or items' are you currently paying attention to in the fashion scene?

Although it's gradual, I feel that the number of people wearing and shops handling avant-garde brands is increasing in Japan. I hope this trend will continue to expand across a wider age range.

What are your expectations for the web magazine OPENERS (http://openers.jp/)?

I would be pleased if you could feature more avant-garde brands with strong design elements. Also, while they are rare in Japan, there are many boutiques with unique and wonderful interiors overseas. I would appreciate it if you could feature such international shops as well.
