Balancing Urban Sophistication with Mature Style

Designer Hiroyuki Obara's ☆AYUITE☆ 2014-15 Autumn/Winter collection utilizes materials with rich texture and dimension, such as slubs and bouclé, to express an urban, mature image. While there isn't a specific seasonal theme, the styling in masculine, real-world clothing truly shines.

Focus on This Season's Key Looks!

――What were the points you focused on for this season's lookbook shoot, and what should people pay attention to?

The shoot's hidden theme was about small moments of the extraordinary within everyday life, like travel or hitchhiking.

――What are the differences in styling, silhouette, and color compared to last year's Autumn/Winter collection?

We've used a lot of textured materials like slubs and bouclé, but the styling balance aims for an urban, mature image. In contrast, we used strong color contrasts for the rug patterns and fleece cowichan knits. We hope people enjoy the powerful masculinity expressed within the folk-inspired elements, and the casual yet sophisticated adult styling.

――What are this season's key looks (coordinations)?

The look on the bottom left layers a denim knit, hand-knitted from tape-cut denim fabric, with a denim jacket. It's balanced with fleece-lined pants. The center look pairs an MA-1 blouson, featuring rug fabric on the back panel, with chino pants for a casual style, but the slim, tapered silhouette creates a refined balance. The look on the bottom right is a traditional tweed setup. In reality, it's a jersey material using heathered yarn, styled with a denim shirt underneath for a relaxed feel.

――What are this season's key items and the materials you focused on?

The item on the top left is a knit made from 4.5oz denim fabric cut into 12mm wide tapes, with the entire process done by hand. The top center is from ☆AYUITE☆'s standard Indian rug series. This season, we've incorporated it into the back panel of an MA-1, a nylon military jacket, creating a modern flight jacket designed to be worn in a just-right fit. The top right features a tweed-like jersey material using three-color heathered wool/rayon yarn, offered as a tailored jacket and tapered pants.
