tone | Fall/Winter 2014-15 Collection

tone

Items that highlight the wearer's individuality, crafted from fine materials.

Simple, modern clothing that reveals a new kind of individuality.

“While we don't have a specific theme for the season, the brand's core concept of 'creating pieces you'll want to keep in your wardrobe forever' remains fundamental,” says Takuhisa Maede, designer of tone. For the latest collection, attention is drawn to pieces centered around clean, urban knits that offer a sense of effortless style.

What is the theme/concept for the 2014-15 Autumn/Winter collection?

“Creating pieces you'll want to keep in your wardrobe forever” is a universal concept, but within that, I want to convey what feels fresh and what we haven't seen before through simple expressions.

What were the key points you focused on for this season's look shoot, and what should people pay attention to?

To interfere as little as possible, and to bring out the wearer's individuality. I believe that when wearing simple clothes, it's precisely then that the individual's personality shines through. Yohei Usami, who has been styling for us since our first season, and photographer Rintaro Ishige, capture that atmosphere very naturally, so I hope you'll feel that aspect.

What are the differences from last year's Autumn/Winter collection in terms of styling, silhouette, and color?

With an increased variety of items like coats and trousers, we were able to convey the brand's image more effectively.

What is the key look (coordination) for this season?

A set-up style of coat and trousers in the same material—a one-tone coordinate. The arm-warmer knit and matching mask worn as an inner layer create an interesting contrast with the coat's atmosphere.

The material used for the coat and trousers, inspired by photographs of Zen temples.

What are the key items and key colors?

The key item is the coat. The fabric, knitted from two different types of yarn, is felted and then bonded with interlining, creating a unique blend of crispness and knit softness. Because it's felted, I like the raw edges and the silhouette that falls cleanly vertically. While navy and gray are our standard colors, this season, shades of brown and the accent color orange for innerwear feel fresh.

What 'material' did you focus on this season?

The material used for the coat and trousers. It all started with looking at a photo book of Zen temples and the image of moss texture overlapping with the idea of worn-out, pilled knit, and then trying to recreate that.
I believe we've created an interesting material with a soft, textured feel and a crispness born from felting.

What 'things, people, or topics' are you currently paying attention to in the fashion scene?

The graphic label 'SAYHELLO' will open an art space with a gallery and shop in Tomigaya in September. tone is also scheduled to be carried there, so I'm looking forward to their future developments.

What are your expectations for the web magazine OPENERS (http://openers.jp/)?

I am deeply honored to be featured in a project like this as someone who has started a new brand. I hope OPENERS will continue to be a media outlet that disseminates the creations of the new generation.
