—What is the theme/concept for the Spring/Summer 2014 collection?

This season's theme is "The Single Guide Man ~The Spirit of a Pure and Nostalgic Tour Guide~."
The pleasant scent of summer fills the air, and the Caribbean Sea sparkles with striking shades of blue and green.—On a beach with an endless expanse of vivid blue sky, a carefree man strums a love song on his acoustic guitar. His playful printed shirt, cool sunglasses, and straw hat complement his sun-tanned skin.
He guides visitors along the captivating Caribbean routes to secret spots known only to locals. The collection is inspired by the free-spirited life of such a single guide man.





—What are the differences in styling, silhouette, and color compared to last year's Spring/Summer collection?

We have a certain established aesthetic and preference, so there aren't drastic changes each season. However, I believe we've enhanced our pursuit of comfort, including silhouette, exquisite color selection, prints and patterns, and most importantly, our playful spirit, compared to the previous season.

—What is the key look (coordination) for this season?

The look featuring the guitar, which is also used in the poster, showcases all original prints, matched in a pattern-on-pattern style. Even with patterned items, we express style through the balance of color tones and pattern size.

—What are the key items and key colors?

The key item is a blouson made with Imabari towel. After being featured in a magazine, the phone rang off the hook, and it sold out immediately. The key colors are sea blue, sea green, and impact red.

—What "materials" did you focus on this season?

Perhaps the Imabari towel and the slub-infused compact pile. The Imabari towel is a high-quality material that we continue to receive cooperation from the factory on, as we did last season.
We had seen compact pile in the market, but I felt inspired, thinking, "The BIRVIN UNIFORM essence comes from infusing slub yarn into it to create an elegant vintage feel!" and decided to try it.

—What are you currently noticing in the fashion scene?

The potential of sports x fashion.

—Please tell us your personal goals for 2014, whether for work or private life.

Personally (Yuji Sekine), I was able to achieve one goal by winning the ADCC JAPAN (Abu Dhabi Combat Club Japan) title. I want to venture out into Japan and the world with the spirit of "Let's walk the path with a smile, no matter how steep it gets!"
