Reconstructing the Painter's Uniform

The 3.1 Phillip Lim “Spring 2018 Men’s Collection” is characterized by its original looks, themed around “The Life of a Mysterious Painter.”

These painters are forging ahead in modern society while immersed in their art. Photographs capturing “a moment” in the working processes of 20th-century artists such as Ellsworth Kelly, Jackson Pollock, and Cy Twombly serve as the inspiration for this collection.


Regarding the collection, Creative Director Phillip Lim stated, “This collection began with the uniforms worn by real painters. We have reconstructed practical workwear—such as aprons, smocks, canvas, and raw denim—into a modern, useful elegance that today’s man can incorporate into his own wardrobe.”
