Focusing on Keisuke Unosawa's "EROTIKA"

Giving Form to "A Love for Girls."
Focus on Keisuke Unosawa's "EROTIKA" Series

The graphic designer Keisuke Unosawa, known for his designs of MOMA's fun-to-operate Christmas cards and logos, has launched his original "EROTIKA" series, featuring acrylic and paper glasses as direct mail. These products, which Unosawa says should be enjoyed "without overthinking," have now debuted.

A Decade in the Making. Each Piece Takes Shape.

—We featured your graphic work for the year-end and New Year display at the eyewear shop Continuer in Ebisu on OPENERS. This "EROTIKA" series is also quite unique.

UnosawaThe design concept has been brewing for about 10 years. I've been making acrylic glasses for about 10 years as well, but because the intention was for them to be worn, they were very difficult to process. Until about five years ago, the cost of polishing the cut edges of the acrylic was extremely high.

—So, they've debuted now because...

Laser cutting became possible, allowing us to achieve a beautiful finish without polishing. This paved the way for mass production, and we were able to release them at a price that felt right.

—The paper glasses can actually be used as direct mail, can't they?

That's right. These are positioned as something between art and graphics, created for communication. They can be sent as a card, displayed, or of course, worn for fun. I don't think there have been cards like this that can be enjoyed without overthinking.

Continuer RepresentativeThey've been well-received by overseas buyers, including those in London, who have called them "seriously wonderful."

—Why did this form come about?

I love girls and have always wanted to give that a form. As I went from drawing just legs to drawing full bodies, I thought, "Could these become glasses?"

—Will the "EROTIKA" series expand its variations?

There are already 12 patterns of the paper DM, and I plan to continue creating more. Please try wearing or displaying them in various scenes.
