A Milanese Icon: A Car Stopper with an Endearing Form, Now a Paperweight | DANESE
DANESE
Harboring an Ambition to Become Milan's New Souvenir
DANESE, a brand that has led the Italian design scene for over half a century, has released an intriguing product. "MEDHELAN" is a miniature version of a concrete block (road barrier) originally designed by Enzo Mari, hailed as a master of Italian modern design.

Enzo Mari, a designer and philosopher, laid the foundations of Italian modern design alongside DANESE. His aesthetic, born from meticulous analysis, continues to be cherished worldwide even after his passing in 2020. The road barrier he designed at the request of the city of Milan featured an endearing form. Installed throughout the city since 1980, it has become a subtle symbol of Milan. "MEDHELAN" is a downsized version of this concrete block. Also made of concrete, the brand suggests its use as a paperweight.
Italian designer Giulio Iacchetti remarked, "This object not only holds down papers on the desk as instructed, but it also harbors an ambition to become Milan's new souvenir!" Its primitive form also seems suitable as a decorative object.
