A truly ambitious item has emerged in the form of a coffee measuring spoon. The development was a collaboration between Taizo Iwasaki of "NOUDO," an international coffee taster and all-around barista, and "PROOF OF GUILD," known for its custom-made jewelry. Their initial mission was to create a single spoon capable of measuring 10 grams each of "light roast" and "dark roast" beans. Naturally, achieving precise measurements is challenging due to variations in bean shape and roast level. However, through repeated testing with various beans, they arrived at this unique form. The spoon is crafted using a casting method: a mold is made from natural clay, into which molten brass is poured. The path to completion was arduous, requiring the patient cooperation of artisans at "Omori Casting Works" and taking a full year to realize.
The design features a step inside the spoon. Filling the lower section below the step with "light roast" beans to a slight mound measures approximately 10g. For "dark roast," filling up to the upper section measures about 10g. These spoons are simple yet brilliantly conceived, each possessing a distinct charm. We invite you to savor the unique character that only handcrafted items can possess.
