Decorations Harmonizing with the Series 7 Chair

The "NORTH EAST WEST" exhibition, which was previously displayed at the Fritz Hansen showroom in Milan, makes its second stop in Tokyo. This exhibition seeks to fuse three distinct design cultures from afar, weaving together the Japanese sensibility of "East" with the Italian craftsmanship of "West," and the Danish origins of Fritz Hansen in the "North."

The twelve unique Series 7 chairs, specially designed by Tomoko Mizu, feature finishes in maple, beech, ash, elm, oak, cherry, walnut, and dark oak, adorned with intricate decorations using traditional techniques such as gold leaf application and wood inlay.

Mizu comments, "I believe Scandinavian and Japanese design share a common sensibility, including a love for nature and respect for the seasonal changes of trees and flowers. Drawing inspiration from the shapes and colors found in the natural world, I wanted to further enhance the value of this universally recognized design icon. Therefore, I designed decorations that possess elegance and delicacy while harmonizing with the Series 7 chair."

Talk Shows to be Held on October 31st (Fri) and November 1st (Sat)

The twelve wooden chairs, designed by Tomoko Mizu, are the result of collaboration with artisans from Lodi in the Lombardy region, who focus on preserving endangered crafts and knowledge, as well as skilled artisans like Davide Bertoni, specializing in gold leaf application, and Enrico Papetti, an expert in wood inlay.

Mizu further explains, "Through my many years living in Italy, I have come to appreciate the beauty and quality of traditional crafts. However, regrettably, interest in traditional craftsmanship is waning in Italy, and the number of artisans and their successors is decreasing. I wondered if there was a way to incorporate the beauty and high quality of the traditional crafts I've encountered more into our daily lives, not just in fashion."

The "NORTH EAST WEST" exhibition showcases products that embody the exhibition's concept of wood and nature, brought to life through Nordic tradition, Japanese sensibility, and the exceptional skills of Italian artisans.
