A stainless steel clasp embedded in a minimalist form

Good tools embody good principles. With this philosophy, Kamaasa Shoten, a kitchenware store in Asakusa Kappabashi, Tokyo, proudly presents its products as “Ryori Dōgu” (tools for good cooking). They have now developed a “clasp-free Ohitsu” using Kiso cypress wood, aged over 100 years, and their unique technology.

The “Ohitsu” is the final tool that perfects the taste of cooked rice. Kamaasa Shoten’s new product, the “Clasp-Free Ohitsu,” is made exclusively from the quarter-sawn wood of Kiso cypress (aged over 100 years), known for its excellent water and moisture resistance.
Traditional Ohitsu typically feature a clasp that encircles the exterior. However, with their proprietary technology, this product has a stainless steel clasp embedded within the body, resulting in a minimalist and beautiful form.
Furthermore, it prevents slippage, detachment, and discoloration of the clasp, maintaining its pristine appearance.
Transferring freshly cooked rice to the “Clasp-Free Ohitsu” allows the initial heat to dissipate, while the wood's natural properties absorb excess moisture, preserving the rice's deliciousness over time. Kiso cypress is also highly acid-resistant, making it an excellent match for vinegared rice. It is truly a “Ryori Dōgu” that will enrich your time at home.
