Low table "HAMMOCK"、Multiple/Mobile "IN THE SKY"、Coat hanger "4FB"—A special exhibition, "Koichi Futatsumata x E&Y Special Exhibition," will be held from Friday, September 13th, on a section of the B1 floor at Living Motif.
Text by KAJII Makoto (OPENERS)
Characterized by a conceptual approach to objects and a spiritual balance of material and form.
This special exhibition showcases furniture and objects released by E&Y from designer Koichi Futatsumata, whose work is characterized by a consistent sensibility and worldview across architecture, space, furniture, and products, and a spiritual balance of material and form. It also introduces his past design work.
A large hammock-like basket floats beyond the glass.—Like gazing at objects through museum display cases or shop windows, the low table "HAMMOCK" is an object that makes its comfortable presence more strongly felt through the glass.
Fallen branches caught on lower branches, swaying gently.—The multiple/mobile "IN THE SKY" finds new beauty in the precariousness and balance felt from such a scene, glimpsed by chance.
A total of six designs, including his debut and latest works, will be exhibited.
Regarding this special exhibition, Koichi Futatsumata says, "I am currently engaged in designs of various types and scales, but my furniture and product designs are always both intuitive and hyper-functional. I have consistently strived to create unique objects born from carefully and meticulously connecting these seemingly contradictory elements.
This exhibition features three pieces previously released by E&Y, along with a total of six designs including my debut and latest works. Please do visit during the exhibition period," he messages to OPENERS readers.
We draw renewed attention to Koichi Futatsumata's design work, born from his unique sculptural vision, encompassing tension and relaxation, balance and sway, and a sense of liberation and equilibrium.
