A Rug Mat Design That Creates New Paths

Miwa Akabane is currently active as a surface pattern artist, primarily in textile and graphic design. After over a decade in advertising production, she studied abroad at KONSTFACK, the University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Sweden, in the textile department. Returning to Japan last summer upon completing her graduate studies, she began her freelance career.


Regarding her new rug mat for "Meet My Project," Akabane commented, "'New Trail' is a rug mat based on my own pattern designs, with a hexagonal base, and the rug uses that shape as a module. Each hexagon is separated by seven white lines, and by rotating them, they connect with other lines. It's a rug mat design that creates new paths."
Furthermore, from Saturday, May 18th to Tuesday, May 21st, she will also be exhibiting at "French Design Connection" (http://www.frenchdesignconnection.com/), an exhibition held concurrently with NY Design Week.
