An Exhibition Exploring the Appeal of Washi and Everyday Objects.
This is a rare opportunity to experience the unique charm of washi. "SIWA," a product line of washi paper, was launched in 2008 by a Yamanashi-based manufacturer. Known for its exceptional strength and durability, this washi paper is the focus of a new exhibition, "Beloved Material, SIWA|Kamiwa," which explores its appeal and the relationship between washi and everyday life. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, October 17, 2018. We encourage you to register in advance and attend.

Washi, a material traditionally preserved in Japan and now globally acclaimed, has been transformed into a contemporary form by "SIWA," launched in 2008 by ONAO, a washi paper manufacturer in Yamanashi. This washi, distinguished by its superior strength and durability, is inherently long-lasting, gradually softening and developing a richer texture with use.
Opening on Wednesday, October 17, this exhibition looks back at SIWA's decade-long journey, while also conveying the allure of washi and the profound connection between everyday objects and people.
Alongside its staple items, the exhibition will showcase a variety of special products commemorating its 10th anniversary. These include a new series crafted from 100% domestically sourced kozo fiber, handmade washi paper, containers and clocks employing papier-mâché techniques, and exclusive collaborations, notably the first with dyer Amiro Yuzuki.
A talk event will be held on the opening day, October 17. Product designer Naoto Fukasawa, who has shaped the design of SIWA|Kamiwa, will be the guest speaker, with Masahiro Kamijo, editor-in-chief of DESIGN magazine 'AXIS,' serving as moderator.
